Bottle labels are a fantastic and low-cost way of promoting your business, conveying your message or simply advertising the delicious drink inside. You can use custom printed bottle labels to promote new products, offer up a giveaway or competition or include a QR code to link to your website or social media platforms. You can even create custom wine bottle labels for special events. But how to print bottle labels? That’s the question! Read on for the answer…
Choosing a size and shape
Choosing a shape and size is the first place to start when designing your custom printed labels. With so many options to choose from, it can be a bit overwhelming! Circular, square, rectangular or custom?
For bottles, we’d recommend the classic rectangle. Our rectangular labels are printed in full colour with adhesive attached to the back. They are available in a range of sizes including:
- 20 x 40 mm
- 25 x 65 mm
- 30 x 90 mm
- 35 x 65 mm
- 50 x 90 mm

With our die-cutters we can create labels in any shape imaginable. Perhaps you’d like your bottle label to be in the shape of your logo or other products? Or maybe you’d like to custom-print your labels for Valentine’s (in a heart shape) or Christmas (in a bauble shape)? Get in touch to see what we can do for you.
Bottle label material options
Choosing your label material can be a crucial step as it can inform your design.
Most labels are printed on uncoated stock with an adhesive backing, to make it as easy as possible for you and your product. We’d recommend sticking to a classic, as shiny labels can reflect the light, making legibility harder.
Label type options for your bottle
Choose from various types to ensure you create your ideal label…
Plain labels, or labels with just a small amount of text, can be customised yourself in your own printing presses. You could order a run of labels with your company name, for example, then customise as and when you need to.

How to print bottle labels
When it comes to printing labels, it’s common to use the digital printing method. This is especially useful if you’re going to include variable data on your labels, as it means the template can be altered per individual label, without needing to make a whole new cutter every time (as would be the case with lithographic printing).
We’ve compiled our most frequently asked questions to offer a mini guide to bottle labels.
How to apply labels smoothly and consistently to bottles?
When applying a label to a bottle, it’s best practise to follow these steps:
- Line up the label so it’s level and in the right place
- Begin with one corner of the label, keeping the adhesive on the remainder of the product
- Slowly peel the adhesive off, pressing to the bottle as you do so
- Eliminate any bubbles or creases with a small squeegee.
How much does it cost to print a label?
Label printing depends on the size, number of labels per a4 sheet and any variable data elements that may need adding. For a specific quote, get in touch with our team today.
